Financial institutions have an impact on global biodiversity levels largely through the companies they finance or invest in. Engaging with these companies, or “collaborative engagement”, is an important strategy to reverse biodiversity loss, making it one of the five commitments outlined in the Finance for Biodiversity Pledge.
This overview points financial institutions to ongoing engagements that they can join and provides information generated from past collaborative engagements. By providing yearly updates, the Finance for Biodiversity Foundation (FfB) and the EU Business & Biodiversity Platform want to help financial institutions navigate the ever-changing landscape of collaborative biodiversity engagements.
The Collaborative Engagements Overview serves as an annex to chapter 3 of the Guide on Engagement with companies launched in 2022. Two new biodiversity-related collaborative engagements have been added to the fourth edition:
- FfB Foundation: Fostering Action for Biodiversity through Responsible Investment in Clothing (FABRIC)
- BRIGE project: Engagement on corporate water management with a watershed approach
Of the 45 collective engagements covered in this guidance, 20 engagements are ongoing and one in the initiation phase. Download the overview here to stay updated on the latest guidance.
