Sustainable Travel Made Easy: EMAS Certification on Booking.com

Hotels and accommodations with EMAS certification can now showcase their sustainability credentials on Booking.com, enhancing visibility and trust among eco-conscious travelers. 

 
We are in the middle of summer and the vacation season. Many of us are searching for the perfect destination. But how can we ensure that our travels are sustainable and that we book eco-friendly accommodations and activity providers? At a time when environmental awareness and sustainability are becoming increasingly important, the certification of tourism organizations through EMAS plays a crucial role. This aligns with the goals of the European Commission to promote sustainable tourism, aiming to minimize the ecological footprint of the travel industry, support local economies, and preserve cultural diversity. 

We are thrilled to announce that EMAS-certified tourism organizations from seven EU member states (Austria, Cyprus, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain) are now successfully integrated on Booking.com. This integration marks a significant step towards more sustainable tourism, enabling travelers to make more conscious travel decisions. 

Why is this important for EMAS-certified organizations? 

The integration on Booking.com provides EMAS organizations with a valuable platform to increase their visibility. More and more people are attaching importance to sustainability and are specifically looking for environmentally friendly accommodation. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase their environmentally friendly practices to a wider audience and stand out from the many other companies. 

What does this mean for Booking.com users? 

For Booking.com users, this means that it is now easier to search for sustainable and environmentally friendly accommodation, as it is now labelled with a sustainable certification. Soon, our EMAS logo will also be visible for even better recognition of the certification! EMAS, as a credible environmental management system by the EU, gives travelers the confidence that they are making environmentally responsible choices and traveling with peace of mind. 

How to ensure your EMAS certification is displayed 

If you are already one of the registered organizations, ensure that your EMAS certification is displayed on Booking.com. You need to manually add your EMAS ID. Visit www.because.eco, sign up, and claim your hotel profile from an already generated list. After activating your profile, you must add your Booking.com ID, which matches your EMAS registration number. Within seven days, your certification will be visible on Booking.com.
