The United Nations Environment Programme has published a progress report on the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (10YFP). The report tracks Member State and stakeholder updates on the progress made in 2022 regarding SDG 12.1. It also introduces the Global Strategy for Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) for the years 2023 to 2030 and highlights its initial implementation during 2023.

The 10YFP’s programs and initiatives offer a variety of context-specific solutions to assist governments and stakeholders with adopting more sustainable patterns of consumption and production. However, scaling up and sustaining such solutions remains a challenge. In addition to member state updates, the publication describes four SCP transformative pathways and summarises key messages for decision-makers.

Another major development from 2022 was the approval of a Global Strategy for Sustainable Consumption and Production aimed at enhancing SCP practices across society. The strategy has four complementary and interconnected pillars that work to further enhance the understanding of SCP as essential for achieving sustainable development, promote broad multi-stakeholder coalitions that enable change, and empower countries to leverage the UN Development system and mainstream SCP patterns.
