What is EMAS Global?
Stakeholders like governments, consumers, non-governmental organisations, and the media are demanding better environmental performance from organisations all over the world. By systematically improving their environmental performance, EMAS registered organisations enhance their competitiveness and boost their image and reputation.
Through the EMAS Global mechanism, EMAS is also available worldwide. This way, EMAS helps to reduce the environmental impact of (industrial) operations around the world. This type of registration is particularly useful for multinational organsations that wish to implement a unified environmental management system throughout their sites within and outside of Europe.
Types of registrations that fall under the EMAS Global category:
- Global Registration: an organisation registers its site(s) in one or more non-European countries.
- Global Corporate Registration: a combination of EU Corporate and Global Registration. It allows an organisation to register its site(s) located in one or more European countries and in one or more non-European countries under one corporate registration procedure in one (leading) country of registration. Organisations can use a single registration number and streamline their auditing and reporting processes.
In all cases, Competent Bodies are responsible for the registration of new organisations to EMAS. Non-EU organisations eager to apply to EMAS Global need to do this via the Competent Body of an EU Member State that offers such services.
List of countries where EMAS Global registration is possible:
